As the voice of the oceanographic community, CORE leads efforts to raise the visibility of ocean science within the Congress and Administration.
In addition, CORE delivers its key messages through its proactive media relations program. Since 1994, CORE has been the voice speaking the language of its audiences for the ocean community. Its success in establishing itself as a respected leader and advocate for the ocean community has been achieved through strategic media relations efforts.

CORE's President,
RADM Richard D. West, and CORE President Emeritus and former Chairman of the congressionally established U.S. Ocean Commission, ADM James D. Watkins, USN (Ret.) act as key spokesman who address issues of importance to the community and serve as accessible resources for advice and information. CORE staff continuously monitor, analyze and report on actions affecting marine science within the 48 Congressional committees and subcommittees as well as monitor the climate of marine science issues with national media representatives and actively seeks out opportunities to bring awareness and appreciation of our oceans.
