The Commission on Ocean Policy, as authorized under the Oceans Act of 2000 and as appointed by President George W. Bush on July 3, 2001, is seeking an Executive Director to oversee all aspects of the Commission's operations. Under the terms of the Oceans Act, "the Chairman of the Commission may, without regard to the civil service laws and regulations, appoint and terminate an Executive Director . . . The employment . . . of the Executive Director shall be subject to confirmation by a majority of the members of the Commission." This is an executive, senior management position requiring expertise in budget oversight, fiscal responsibility, management of staff, contract oversight, and oral and written communication. Expertise managing major projects involving large quantities of information and production of timely reports is required. Specific knowledge of national ocean law, policy, administration, program organization, natural resource management, and oceanography and marine sciences is desirable.

This is a temporary position lasting about 18 to 24 months. The Executive Director will work in the Commission's offices in the Washington, DC, area.
